Time to toss in my point thoughts on the obvious direction change that Mo is going this year....
Clearly he is making this coming year's team a more physical team vs. a skill team. In the ECHL more so than the AHL or NHL a physical team is an asset come playoff time but potentially a liability in the regular season.
Come crunch time- "playoffs" a skill team can shine as the skill level is ramped up a knotch or 2 but the same goes for a physical team and more so- we have had skilled based teams in the past but have not faired well in the post season mainly because our skill level wasn't skilled enough (ECHL) to beat the more physical based teams.
The bottom line at the ECHL level- even a knotched up skilled team loses to a knotched up physical team because .....big and strong is equal at the ECHL level and the AHL where as skill at the ECHL level is not equal to skill at the AHL level.. Of course a mix of both is what you want and need to be really successful and to date there appears to be a fairly good mix of physical players and skilled players signed this year with the edge going to the physical guys- which is in my opinion fine.
I don't think this is going to be a goon team (Purinton like) but rather an ECHL level Philly Flyers type of team. Gritty players that can play hard and get the job done in tough situation vs. backing away and trying to out manuver a team with skill.
I remember Stefanishion as a solid threat on the ice both in size and skill, a nice addition
