Looking at the recent signings I get the sense that the shift to toughness is changing the balance of scoring. I like D and especially I appreciate D toughness, but I would like to see some back end scoring potential. Sure, on the PP you can use a forward with a booming shot on the point but 5 on5 with the game flowing it would really be nice to have that scoring threat trailing the play. Otherwise the opposition will just be able to key on the forwards without fear of that threat.

All of this defense and it seems size would have complimented Goldie's scoring touch but alas I know shut up about Goldie.

Salmon Kings Starting To Look Like Aces-South -- Victoria Signs Martin, Turek
By Doyle Woody, Alaska Daily News

Can't imagine Alaska Aces fans will like this news -- the Victoria Salmon Kings are beginning to look like the Aces Alumni Chapter.

The rival Salmon Kings, who Wednesday announced the signing of former Aces winger Matt Stefanishion, have also signed two former Aces defenseman in shutdown specialist Derick Martin -- aka The Machine for his remarkable fitness and proficiency -- and Ryan Turek.

Martin was traded by the Aces last season in a move to Elmira that brought forward Jarrett Konkle in return -- that trade shocked Martin, who at the time said he expected to finish his career in Anchorage, and saddened fans.

Now, it looks like the Aces will discover the pains of trying to play against Martin, who generally logs heavy ice time against opponents' top lines and is a Grade A penalty killer -- it is not unusual for Martin to stay out for the entire two minutes of an opposing power play.

Plus, he has paired with Turek in the past, which makes them immediately comfortable with each other. Those two proved instrumental in the Aces' run to Game 7 of the 2009 Kelly Cup. Martin played two and a half seasons in Anchorage, Turek one and a half.

Martin last season racked 1-15--16 totals and a +1 rating in 60 games with the Aces. Turek went 3-7--10 and -6 in 60 matches with the Aces.

Puckheads no doubt remember Martin's legendary toughness. Two seasons ago, he took a puck in the face that cost him teeth and more than 50 stitches, and promptly played, and quite well, the next night.

Hopefully it is more than just a "re-announcement" about Kiel.

Matt Pope

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=76512

He didn't do much with the Moose last year, but based on his stats in the ECHL two years ago it looks like he could replace Goldie's 40 goals with some assists thrown in as well.

Should be a good signing hope that he can stick around here and get some games here . This looks like a Moose recomendation.

Think this was a mistake on the part of wikipedia. Can't see the Canucks paying Matt 550K to play for the SKs and also having the SKs sign him.

the over all total of his contract is for 1.1 mil for 2 years.. meaning that he gets paid 550k for2 years which adds up to 1.1.... but this is only if he plays with the canucks.. he will make less in the ahl or echl.... please correct me if im wrong
